Most high school students want to optimize their class schedules, aiming to get the most out of the year with classes that will both fulfill graduation requirements and hopefully get them closer to achieving post-high school goals. Youthentity’s Career Academy benefits students looking for a great experience - one that helps them to discover their unique talents and strengths - as well as provides credits and opportunities to get a head start on their post-high school plans. Through concurrent enrollment, scholarship opportunities, Career Academy is a great option for students looking ahead into the future.

What is concurrent enrollment?
Concurrent enrollment is taking a college class taught by an approved adjunct instructor and receiving transcripted college credit and a grade that shows up on college and high school transcripts. At Career Academy, we embed the college courses into the overall experience with Youthentity's adjunct instructors. Tuition is paid for by Youthentity or the school district.

Youthentity Executive Director Kirsten McDaniel explains: "Concurrent enrollment is important because it increases a student's chances of completing post-secondary education while increasing their self-confidence in an authentic way. Across the state, only 3.4% of students graduate high school with college credit or a post-secondary certificate compared to 100% of our students."

Students also receive an exemption from high school math and/or English credits for the time they are in a Career Academy Hospitality or Construction class, as these classes have been recognized for providing maths and English educational content.

But that's not all! Students can also earn industry certifications through Career Academy:
Construction: NCCER Core, OSHA 10, IEC New Worker Apprenticeship
Hospitality: ServSafe FoodHandler, ServSafe Manager, ProStart Certificate of Achievement

Career Academy is enrolling for both Construction and Hospitality for Fall 2021-22 (Animal Care and Health Occupations are currently full)! Classes are year-long and students receive credits toward graduation.

Interested parents and students can find the class syllabus for all four classes (Culinary Arts & Hospitality, Structure Design & Construction, Health Occupations, and Animal Care here.
