Lemonade Day

What is Lemonade Day?
Lemonade Day is an experiential learning program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand. The model ensures that all children, grades K-12, can sign-up and receive materials absolutely free of charge. There are two distinct components of Lemonade Day. First is a month-long learning experience through which a child and a caring adult exercise a step-by-step process of creating a business. The second component is the actual implementation of the business, which takes place on Lemonade Day.

What do children learn?
Lemonade Day offers a curriculum developed in coordination with the Search Institute and their 40 Developmental Assets – strength-based qualities, skills, and values – that help youth succeed in life. The educational tools provided by Lemonade Day teach children how to set goals, create budgets, secure investors, serve a healthy product, design a stand, repay investors, save for the future and give back to the community. In turn, youth gain self-esteem critical for future success and acquire skills in good decision making, goal-setting and problem solving. Through their participation in Lemonade Day, youth learn fundamental lessons about life, entrepreneurship and themselves.

How can I get involved with Lemonade Day?

  1. Teachers: Register your classroom and receive complementary learning materials and a teacher's guide to serve as a manual to implement the program at your school.  After completing the steps to success outlined in the curriculum, teacher's facilitate an in-school lemonade stand with their class to bring the principles of "spend, share, save" to light. Teacher's earn a $100 cash award for successfully completing this program in their classroom.
  2. Parents/Mentors: Register your child or a child in your life online or at a participating Alpine Bank location in the Roaring Fork Valley, to receive complementary learning materials to complete the Lemonade Day curriculum at home.  This is a "do-it-yourself" kit that will be available leading up to Lemonade Day.
  3. My Career. My Life.: Middle School students who are enrolled in My Career. My Life. can participate in a Lemonade Day business internship at school with one of our YouthEntity coaches during the academic year.  The program will take place over  6 - 8 weeks and students will open up their stands on Lemonade Day.

Lemonade Day includes collaborations with other youth organizations and schools throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, including the Aspen Art Museum, the Art Base, Carbondale Council on Arts & Humanities, the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts, Crystal River Elementary School and Aspen Elementary School, allowing YouthEntity to reach even more youth through our work ready, career ready, life ready model.
